(ST NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) DE PERE – St. Norbert College went on an explosive 18-0 run midway through the second half in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinal game against Concordia University Wisconsin in a 60-42 win at Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center.
St. Norbert will host Aurora University on Friday at 7 p.m. in a NACC semifinal game.
The Green Knights (17-7) were held to a tight game in the first half, trailing 10-7 with 2:58 remaining in the first quarter. Six straight points from Taylor Thiry gave St. Norbert a 13-10 lead just before the end of the opening period. The Falcons closed the lead to just three points in the second quarter before a Rose Hahn (pictured) jumper had St. Norbert leading 23-18 at the half.
Concordia Wisconsin closed the lead to 29-28 with 6:30 left in the third quarter until a 8-0 run led by Reese Sellers started to give the Green Knights more life. A 3-pointer for Concordia made it just a two-possession game until the strong St. Norbert run.
The run began with an and-one for Avery Bierowski near the end of the third quarter and extended past the halfway point of the fourth quarter until the Falcons were able to respond. St. Norbert shot 61.54 percent in the period, with Hahn scoring seven points in five minutes. The Falcons were held in check with just three field goals in the fourth quarter. St. Norbert led 55-33 at the end of the run.
St. Norbert shot 43.9 percent from the floor (25-for-57). Hahn led the Green Knights with 14 points while Thiry had 12. Marnie Kahl was one rebound short of a double-double performance with 10 points and nine boards.
Concordia Wisconsin shot 25.9 percent from the floor (14-for-54). Isabela Gunderson led the Falcons with 12 points.
