(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) GREEN BAY – Maddy Skorupski scored 20 points, 18 coming in the second half, to help lead the Green Bay women’s basketball team past the IU Indianapolis Jaguars 72-61 at home Wednesday.
Skorupski added five assists to her 20-point game to lead the Phoenix (22-7, 17-2). Jenna Guyer helped out with 19 points and eight rebounds, and Kamy Peppler chipped in with eight points and four assists. Meghan Schultz finished the night with 10 points.
Green Bay outrebounded IU Indianapolis 34-25 in Wednesday’s game, led by Guyer’s eight boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay started out the scoring by going on a 13-0 run to start, culminating in a bucket from Kristina Ouimette, to take the lead with 2:38 left in the first quarter. The Phoenix then maintained that lead and entered the quarter break with a 21-8 advantage. Green Bay did most of its first-quarter damage in the paint, scoring 18 of its 21 points close to the basket.
The Jaguars followed with a 19-9 run to end the half, but the Phoenix still had the lead as they entered halftime with a 30-27 edge.
Green Bay continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Ouimette, to expand its lead further to 46-40 with 2:45 to go in the third. The Jaguars rallied to take their first lead of the game, 48-46, after a Kamara Mills three pointer, before a pair of Skorupski free throws brought the score even, 48-48, to end the third quarter.
Green Bay started the fourth with a bang, going on an 11-0 run, finished off by Skorupski’s jumper, to seize a 59-48 lead with 5:42 to go in the contest. The Phoenix held onto that lead for the rest of the game and cruised to the 72-61 win.

The Phoenix will play its regular season finale on the road against last year’s HL runner-up, Purdue Fort Wayne, on Saturday, Feb. 28, with tip-off slated for 1:00 p.m. CST.
