Andres Garcia-Saenz (BCSO)
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Andres Garcia-Saenz has no grounds to appeal his conviction or sentence for killing Douglas Campbell by stabbing him 222 times and hitting him 44 times, a state appeals court ruled.
Garcia-Saenz was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide for the March 16, 2020, murder at Campbell’s home. Garcia-Saenz was sentenced to life in prison, and can first ask for parole in 2060.
Garcia-Saenz appealed his conviction, but this week the appeals rejected his arguments.
“Having independently reviewed the entire record as mandated we conclude there are no arguably meritorious issues for appeal,” the court wrote.
According to the criminal complaint, a March 17, 2020, welfare check discovered Campbell’s body at a Traeger Street home.
The investigation led them to Garcia-Saenz. At his residence, they found Campbell’s clothing, credit cards, ID, shoes, and other items. He repeatedly denied any involvement in the murder, and offered varying explanations for his time at Campbell’s home and why he had Campbell’s possessions.
DNA test results show samples likely from both Garcia-Saenz and Campbell on the handle of a bloody hammer found at the scene.
