(ST. NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) DE PERE – St. Norbert College peppered the goal with shots from the opening drop of the puck and never stopped until a 9-2 win over Lake Forest College was in the books following a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.
The Green Knights (14-6-2, 10-3-2 NCHA), ranked No. 5 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, had three shots on goal in the opening minute of action and ended up outshooting the Foresters 65-21 in shots on goal. St. Norbert held a 101-33 advantage in total shots attempted, which includes shots that are blocked or wide of the cage.
St. Norbert outshot Lake Forest 26-3 in a lopsided first period that saw the Green Knights take a 4-0 lead. Logan Dombrowsky potted the first two goals for the Green Knights, scoring at 6:45 and then adding a power-play goal at 16:35. St. Norbert picked up a pair of goals in the final two minutes of hte period, with Jackson Rilei finishing at 18:05 and Jack Christen burying a breakaway chance at 19:47.
The Green Knights quickly added to their lead on a goal from Curtis Hammond just 22 seconds into the second period. Lake Forest could get a marker from Trevor Faucher at the 3:43 mark, but Hammond pushed the lead out to 6-1 with a goal at 14:18. Ryan Gingher scored at 16:49 for a 7-1 edge, but the Foresters cut it to 7-2 on a Connor Miller score at 18:36.
St. Norbert closed out the scoring with a goal by Calvin Hanson (pictured) at 57 seconds of the third period and another Gingher goal at 7:24.
A total of 14 skaters found the scoresheet for the Green Knights. Hammond had two goals and two assists for four points, while Christen had one goal and three assists for four points. Dombrowsky finished with two goals and one assist for three points, while Hanson had one goal and two assists for three points. Gingher finished with two goals for two points, while T.J. Koufis and Trevor Mitchell each had two assists for two points.
Hunter Garvey made 19 saves for the Green Knights, who were 1-for-3 on the power play. Lake Forest was 0-for-1 on the man advantage.
WOMEN
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – St. Norbert College bounced back in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association with a 5-0 shutout over Lake Forest College at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
The Green Knights (12-8-2, 9-4-2) held a 2-0 advantage after the first period before adding three more in the second period. Two of the five goals came on the power play.
Maddie Madden opened the scoring at 10:11 in the first period off a Grace Wittkopf helper before Anika Fortin (pictured) scored the first of two power-play goals for the Green Knights at 11:29. Taylor Lesnar and Emma Stebbeds were credited with the assists.
The trio of Fortin, Lesnar and Stebbeds were in tandem again on a power play early in the second period, with Fortin getting her second goal at 2:52. Allison Jacobsen made it 4-0 at 5:55, while Madden returned the favor to Wittkopf at 15:26 to make it 5-0.
St. Norbert outshot the Foresters 44-24. Tanith Plachetka made 24 saves for the Green Knights while Chelsea Denniss made 39 stops for the Foresters.
Madden, Fortin, Lesnar, Stebbeds and Wittkopf all finished the game with two points. Maddie Donnelly and Maleiyah Streck both had one assist for one point.
Green Knights were 2-for-4 on the power play while Lake Forest was 0-for-4.
