WAUPACA COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new judge has been appointed for Waupaca County, following the death of Judge Raymond Huber.
Gov. Tony Evers appointed Diane Meulemans to the bench, he announced Thursday.
Meulemans has served as Waupaca County corporation counsel since 2014. She has also served as assistant and deputy corporation counsel in Marathon County and corporation counsel in Green Lake County.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and a master’s degree from UW-Madison. She earned her law degree from the UW Law School.
“I am humbled and honored to accept this appointment by Gov. Evers, and I am dedicated to continuing the judicial legacy of the late Honorable Raymond S. Huber,” Meulemans said in a statement. “As an attorney in the Office of Corporation Counsel for over twenty years, almost twelve of those in Waupaca County, I have demonstrated my commitment to public service and to protecting the rights of those who are vulnerable and in crisis in our community. As a judge, I will serve with compassion, integrity, impartiality, and a steadfast commitment to justice for all.”
“We join Gov. Evers in welcoming Attorney Diane Meulemans to the bench in Waupaca County,” Waupaca County judges Vicki Clussman and Troy Nielsen said in a statement. “We believe Attorney Meulemans will be an asset to the judiciary as she consistently demonstrates excellent preparation, insight, and knowledge of the law.”
Meulemans will complete a term ending July 31, 2027.
The seat became open when Huber died in December from injuries sustained in a fall. He was 68 years old.
