ASHWAUBENON (WTAQ-WLUK) – A Luxemburg man is in jail after a teen died in a crash Friday evening.
Brown County Jail records show 69-year-old Douglas James Proehl was booked Friday. He faces a request charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
Ashwaubenon Public Safety said a teenage girl was killed and her father was injured after a truck allegedly ran a red light and collided with their vehicle. Investigators said the driver of the truck, a 69-year-old Luxemburg man, was arrested for operating while intoxicated, as alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash.
At approximately 5 p.m. Friday, law enforcement responded to the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Holmgren Way and Lombardi Avenue in Ashwaubenon.
Authorities say a truck was traveling east on Lombardi when, according to a witness, it proceeded through a red light. The truck crashed into a sedan turning south onto Holmgren from westbound Lombardi.
The sedan was being driven by a 45-year-old Green Bay man. His 17-year-old daughter was a passenger. Ashwaubenon Public Safety said she sustained “critical injuries” in the crash and was transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Her father was also hospitalized with injuries.
A conviction of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle could carry a penalty of five to 25 years in prison.
Wisconsin court records show Proehl was charged with a first offense operating while intoxicated in 2022, however that case has not concluded.
