WAUPACA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A 41-year-old man was arrested in Waupaca, suspected of his second OWI.
On Monday just after 6 p.m., Waupaca County deputies responded to a report of a driver that was swerving in the roadway at various speeds on US Highway 10. At one point, it was reported the driver almost struck a guard rail.
Deputies located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.
Deputies could smell a strong odor of alcohol on the driver and noticed other signs of impairment.
The man was arrested on his suspected second OWI, failure to install an ignition interlock device and operating after revocation.
Due to his high level of intoxication, he was taken to a hospital for medical care.
A preliminary breath test showed the driver to have an alcohol concentration of .427.
Due to the driver being restricted from his previous OWI arrest, he was more than 21 times the legal limit.
