GREEN BAY, Wis. (WLUK) — Local businesses say that the Green Bay Packers’ loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday stung in more ways than one.
Thursday, the Detroit Lions’ loss to the Minnesota Vikings told us the Green Bay Packers were going to the playoffs.
However, Green Bay’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday, made it clear that Lambeau Field won’t host another Packers’ game until late next Summer.
A potentially big hit to the tourism industry with no home games in the postseason.
“It’ll definitely be a zero revenue weekend. It was kind of something that we looked forward to, but now with that coming to an end, it’s just lost revenue,” said Andy Krans.
Krans owns six rental properties in De Pere.
Without fans traveling to Northeast Wisconsin for the playoffs, short term rental properties all around the area will be tougher to fill.
“With the loss we’ve already blocked off the entire month of January and now made those available for Longer short-term rentals now that the short-term rental season is kind of over with the Packers,” said Krans.
It isn’t just the property owner that’s impacted.
“The cleaners that typically take care of the Airbnb’s or the short-term rentals, they’re obviously disappointed by it,” said Krans.
Overall, a Packers home game is estimated to have an economic impact of $15 million. That now will be lost.
Regardless of where the Packers are playing, on gameday, restaurants and bars like Stadium View Bar & Grill, will still draw a crowd.
“We’re still going to get busy no matter what. It’s going to be a little less busy being in a away game, but the fans will still come out and support it no matter what happens,” said Kaitlin Boettcher, Stadium View Bar & Grill Sports Bar Manager.
But, it’s what is around game day that will see the biggest difference.
“For home games, the day before is always very very busy so we’ll obviously lose out on that. We’ll miss out on everything from the day before and the day after,” said Boettcher.
Although the Packers are still going to the postseason, local businesses won’t have as big of an opportunity to capitalize on it.
The Packers will finish the regular season against the Vikings in Minnesota.
