(LEARFIELD) – The Wisconsin men’s hockey team goes for its fourth Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off in five years, starting Sunday.
The Badgers meet Lake Superior State at 4:00 p.m, then meet the winner of Western Michigan and Boston College Monday at 7:30 p.m.
The field for this year’s tournament includes three ranked competitors for the first time.
Three Badgers – Luke Osburn, Logan Hensler, and Quinn Finley – will miss the tournament because they are playing in the IIHF World Junior Championships in Minnesota through January 5th.
The USA meets Germany Friday afternoon.
Home cookin’ for Gard’s team: The Badgers are ready to enjoy some more “home cookin’.”
Next week’s game against UW-Milwaukee at the Kohl Center is the second of four straight games on the home court. Wisconsin is unbeaten there.
Coach Greg Gard’s squad carries an 8-and-4 record overall while splitting two conference games.
Bench players appear ready to claim a bigger role in games, giving Gard more depth to call on.
The in-state showdown with the Panthers is on the schedule for Tuesday.
Badgers add a coach: Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell announced an addition to his coaching staff on Tuesday, welcoming cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples. With Steeples joining the staff, Paul Haynes, who has been Wisconsin’s cornerbacks coach since 2023, will serve as UW’s secondary coach.
Steeples will arrive in Madison after spending two seasons as a senior offensive analyst at Iowa State. Prior to his two seasons with the Cyclones, Steeples led the cornerbacks unit at LSU from 2022-23. A St. Louis native, Steeples played collegiately as a defensive back at Missouri (2009-11) and Memphis (2012) before spending three NFL seasons with four teams from 2013-15.
