CHICAGO (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Green Bay Packers blew a late lead and fell to the Chicago Bears in overtime Saturday night, 22-16.
Packers quarterback Jordan Love left the game with a concussion suffered on a big hit to his helmet in the second quarter.
As the third quarter started, the Packers ruled Love out with a concussion. Backup quarterback Malik Willis entered the game immediately after the injury. It was Bears defender Austin Booker who had the helmet-to-helmet hit on Love. He was flagged for a personal foul.
Green Bay held a 3-0 lead when Love left the game. Willis continued the drive into the red zone. The Packers extended their lead to 6-0 on another Brandon McManus field goal. That was the score at halftime. The Packers dominated the Bears in time of possession, but Green Bay only had six points to show for it as their red zone offense was flat.
Green Bay’s first touchdown came late in the third quarter. On third and short, Willis found Romeo Doubs in the end zone for a 33-yard touchdown. That made the score 13-3. Chicago scored its second field goal, an impressive 51-yard field goal through the wind by Cairo Santos, early in the fourth quarter. Green Bay scored a field goal and had a 10-point lead with 5:06 remaining.
Chicago scored another field goal to make the score 16-9. Chicago recovered the subsequent onside kick and scored a touchdown on fourth down with :24 remaining. With the extra point, that tied the game at 16.
In overtime, Willis found wide receiver Jayden Reed for a key 31-yard pass. That moved the ball into Chicago territory. On fourth and 1, Willis fumbled the snap, and the Packers turned the ball over on downs.
On Chicago’s possession, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams found wide receiver D.J. Moore for a 46-yard game-winning touchdown pass.
Packers running back Josh Jacobs and wide receiver Christian Watson were listed as questionable going into the game but both played.
Tackle Zach Tom (back/knee) and safety Evan Williams (knee) were not active. Tackle Jordan Morgan and safety Javon Bullard started instead.
