TOWN OF SYLVESTER, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two men from the Fox Valley died in a plane crash Monday in southern Wisconsin.
Around 5:15 p.m., the Green County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a plane had crashed in a gravel quarry on the north side of State Highway 59, adjacent to the Monroe Municipal Airport. When first responders arrived on scene, they found a large debris field from the aircraft and construction equipment in the quarry up in flames.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze. Emergency personnel located two victims who were pronounced dead. On Tuesday, sheriff’s officials identified them as a 43-year-old Oshkosh man and 41-year-old Omro man. Their names were not released.
Both men were inside the plane when it crashed. It was inbound to land at the Monroe airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are on scene conducting an investigation.
