MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A woman who set her house on fire because she was frustrated with life was sentenced Friday to six months in jail.
Kristin Dewar, 54, previously pleaded no contest to unsafe burning of a building and recklessly endangering safety for the May 26, 2024, fire.
In addition to the jail time, Dewar was placed on probation for six years by Judge Robert Dewane, court records show.
According to the criminal complaint, Dewar confessed to police set fire to the Cleveland home.
“KRISTIN stated, “I don’t know why, just f*** it.” As she was talking to me, I also began to see her start to cry. KRISTIN admitted she was upstairs in bed and was feeling “tired of it all.” That is when she had the thought of “just burn it down.” KRISTIN admitted she exited the house and went into the garage where she located the gas can. She was not sure exactly where the gas can was but described it being in the garage and she had to look for it. She returned into the residence and went into the basement with the gas can where she obtained pots from a storage location in the basement. She described the pots as her “corn on the cob” pots and stored in the area where her crockpots are which are similar to built-in cabinets in the basement. She described that hanging on a nail is a WALMART bag with old rags in it. She put the rags inside of the pots and poured gas on them. She then carried the pots into the back storage room and set them on the floor underneath the wooden shelves,” the complaint states.
Dewar then woke the people in the house and got them to evacuate.
