GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Bids for construction of the potential new home for the coal piles currently in downtown Green Bay came in under projections, according to Brown County documents.
The city, county, and state have been working on plans to move the C. Reiss Co. coal operations from along the west bank of the Fox River to a new location near the mouth of the Fox River. Before any move can take place, a new facility at the site of the former Pulliam Power Plant must be constructed.
The expansion plans include constructing a new dock wall, dredging part of the Fox River to allow ships access to the new site, construction of a stormwater detention basin, and installation of mooring features.
The project was expected to cost $50 million or more, but the five base bids submitted by the Nov. 18 deadline ranged from $41.8 million to $47.6 million. There are also bids on nine other optional items, a county document shows.
The bids are expected to be reviewed by the county’s Planning, Development & Transportation Committee Dec. 2, and could go to the full County Board Dec. 17.
