SUAMICO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday to celebrate the near-completion of the Lineville Road construction project.
Work began two years ago, back in fall 2023, to expand and improve Lineville Road from Velp Avenue to W. Deerfield Avenue.
“Basically, what we’ve done here is taken a two-lane road and converted it into a four-lane for improved traffic flow and safety, as well as for the economic development in the area,” said Brown County Highway Commissioner Chris Hardy.
A 12-foot asphalt multi-use trail was added along the north side, and roundabouts were reconstructed to better accommodate increased traffic volumes and provide a safe walkway for all users to access businesses and schools.
The project cost more than $20 million. Brown County and the villages of Howard and Suamico contributed funds, as did the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
It’s anticipated the road should be fully opened to traffic by the end of next week.
“Big projects are complicated; they take a while to do. But I think people will see in the next 10 days the value of this project — almost instantly, the first time you drive it,” said Village of Howard Administrator Paul Evert.
Village of Suamico Administrator Alex Kaker added, “Thank you to the businesses, especially along Lineville Road, and our residents for their patience. Throughout this project, we stressed early and often that this was going to be a short-term headache for a long-term benefit, and I’m just excited that next week, we’ll see some of those benefits.”
