DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Officials in Door County are learning more after one person died after what was originally described as an air tank explosion at the Harbour Village Resort and Campground in Egg Harbor early Saturday morning.
In a release on Sunday, the Door County Sheriff’s Office says the initial investigation now shows that a 3,000-gallon water tank exploded as resort employees were flushing water lines in order to winterize the park.
Officials say when they arrived, there was no active fire or additional immediate threats. A storage building was partially dismantled, and the deceased person was found outside the building as a result of the explosion.
The sheriff’s office says next of kin have been identified; however, they are not releasing the person’s name “pending proper identification and an autopsy.”
Officials were called to the scene just before 7:45 on Saturday morning.
