GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — It appears there has been no resolution or decision on Green Bay East High School head football coach Niko Sila’s future with the school district after a meeting with district officials on Monday.
Sila’s wife, Chelci, says no disciplinary action came from the meeting, as the investigation that landed her husband on paid administrative leave is ongoing.
Another meeting between Sila and district officials is scheduled for Thursday. It’s unclear if the meeting will lead to a resolution or any disciplinary action.
State law prohibits the school district from sharing what allegations it has received about Sila.
After Monday’s meeting, Sila’s wife says it seems the district is “focusing on the fact that he transported players in a private vehicle when advised on three prior occasions not to. Also the fact that he sent a text message to the players via group chat encouraging them to keep their heads held high and be positive when he was advised not to have contact with the student body, parents or district partners.”
A letter from district officials to Sila when he was put on administrative leave stated Sila could be fired if he has contact with students or parents.
Sila, who is also the school’s manager of engagement, attendance and advocacy, was put on leave on Oct. 16, the day before the 120th football game between Green Bay East and West high schools.
Malik Lynch, a representative for Sila who was in the meeting when Sila was put on leave, has said the district received a list of about 20 allegations against the coach.
Chelci Sila has said her husband denies some of the allegations and says the rest are being taken out of context.
The school district has maintained it cannot comment on the situation due to it being a personnel matter.
An online petition to reinstate Sila has gathered more than 2,100 signatures as of Monday morning.
