GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Republican Party of Wisconsin is experiencing a change in one of its leadership positions, with the departing member saying the rest of the leadership team is dysfunctional.
Kelly Ruh, who has ties to De Pere, resigned Sunday, effective immediately, as the treasurer of the Republican Party of Wisconsin. She criticized the party’s leadership as she stepped down.
In her resignation letter, Ruh said, “After careful consideration, I have concluded that I can no longer meaningfully contribute to our party’s executive leadership under the current circumstances.”
Ruh’s departure comes after tough statewide losses for the GOP in the April 1 election, including the race for state superintendent of public instruction and the state Supreme Court. Former State Attorney General Brad Schimel, the Republican-backed candidate, lost to Democratic-backed Dane County Judge Susan Crawford by 10 percentage points.
Citing those recent elections in Wisconsin, Ruh added if the Republican Party of Wisconsin doesn’t “drastically change its approach to everything” then the party won’t have a role in deciding the future of the state.
In her letter, Ruh went on to cite problems such as the absence of a strategic plan, defined objectives and measurable outcomes, as well as budgetary issues.
She said the combination of those problems has “created an environment in which progress is difficult to assess and nearly impossible to achieve.”
Later in the letter, Ruh wrote:
Moreover, the internal dynamics of RPW, particularly the dysfunctional leadership, have made attempts at collaboration increasingly unproductive and discouraging. The lack of transparency, direction, and respect for differing perspectives — or even basic board oversight — has fostered a culture that is not only ineffective but also absurd.
Ruh said it “pains” her the RPW continues to make “the same mistakes time and again.”
Ruh’s letter was posted on X by Brett Galaszewski, a member of the party’s executive committee. He’s also involved with Turning Point USA.
In his post, he wrote, “When even voices from the old guard start saying the quiet part out loud, it should be a wakeup call for everyone.”
