OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Winnebago County man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for killing his parents.
Erik Metzig, 28, was convicted last year for the 2023 deaths of David and Jan Metzig. A later attempt to withdraw his no contest plea was rejected.
Judge Michael Gibbs sentenced Metzig back-to-back life sentences, with no chance for parole.
Police were called to the home around 5:15 a.m. March 18, 2023, where the dead couple was discovered. Police found the bodies in the bedroom, covered in blankets, with apparent gunshot wounds to the head, the criminal complaint states.
According to their obituary, David and Jan Metzig were third-generation owners of Union Star Cheese Factory near Fremont.
