APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Former Kaukauna Youth Baseball Association coach Kevin Doszak was sentenced to 30 days in jail Friday for destroying the security camera inside a concession stand to hide thefts from stand safes. He was also ordered to pay $5,072.98 in restitution.
Doszak was previously convicted of one count of criminal damage to property. Eight other counts — burglary and theft — were dismissed but Judge Emily Lonergan was able to consider them during the sentencing.
He was placed on probation for three years by the judge.
Before the sentence was issued, Doszak apologized to his family and Kaukauna Youth Baseball.
“I want to extend my apologies to the players that I coached and their families. As a coach, I understand that my job is not just on the field, it’s off the field to set an example. And I set a poor example. I regret letting down those who looked for me for guidance,” he said.
According to the criminal complaint:
Kevin did not have permission to enter the building(s) from Kaukauna Youth Baseball (KYB) representatives when there were no baseball games being played and to steal money. Kevin was stealing money when there was nobody else at the baseball diamonds; sometimes at night and sometimes at odd times in the morning hours when Kevin knew nobody was going to be there.
The complaint lists several incidents recorded on security camera in June, 2023, when Doszak allegedly took between $40 and $165 in six different incidents at Horseshoe Park and Riverside Park. However, the total amount may be much more than that.
KYB is down approximately $2967.25 on average compared to concession sales the last two years. Kevin is still suspected of stealing money from the original complaint where approximately $3000 – $4000 was reported missing from the tournament weekend of June 10th – 11th.
When confronted by police, Doszak said he stole money to pay bills, and wanted to pay it back. He admitted to stealing a total of about $600-$700, the complaint states.
