Calumet County Sheriff's Office (Fox 11 Online)
(WTAQ-WLUK) — An armed person was arrested after leading authorities on a pursuit that spanned across multiple Northeastern Wisconsin counties and ended in Lake Winnebago.
Just before 2 a.m. Thursday, Calumet County dispatch received a call from the Green Bay Police Department about an individual who was wanted for multiple felony bail jumping charges and fleeing/eluding charges. The person was reported to be armed with a machete and baseball bat and was on electronic monitoring through Sheboygan County.
The suspect was traveling through Calumet County around 2:19 a.m. and was spotted going south on Highway 57 through Chilton. The suspect did not stop when a Chilton police officer attempted to make a traffic stop and a pursuit ensued.
Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit when it entered Fond du Lac County where the subject left the roadway, damaging a yard and striking a tree.
The suspect continued driving and entered Calumet County again.
The pursuit ended when the suspect drove into Lake Winnebago off the end of Gladwater Beach Road. The pursuit lasted approximately 20.3 miles.
The suspect initially refused to surrender to law enforcement and remained in their partially submerged vehicle.
A drone was used to observe the subject as negotiations were conducted. The suspect did ultimately surrender and was taken into custody without further incident.
Several bladed weapons and a baseball bat were located in the vehicle.
The suspect is being held in the Calumet County Jail for charges of fleeing/eluding and felony bail jumping.
