MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The two police officers who fatally shot a suspect near Peshtigo will not face criminal charges, Marinette County District Attorney DeShea Morrow has ruled.
Marinette police officers Parker De Los Santos and Andrew Bonjean shot and killed 23-year-old Andrew Collamore Aug. 29 near Highway 41 after a chase. Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller was also on scene and used a Taser on Collamore.
Morrow and the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation say Collamore was armed with a knife and refused officers’ commands to drop it before he was shot. Body- and dashcam video from the officers shows Collamore making a reference to “Area 51” and saying “you were supposed to execute me” before running or lunging toward De Los Santos with the knife.
Morrow wrote:
It is clear that the officers were justified in using deadly force to respond to the deadly force that was threatened against them. The two Marinette Police Officers and Sheriff Miller responded with professionalism and in accordance with their training and proper legal standards in the midst of an extremely difficult circumstance.
Collamore was wanted in connection with a homicide in Dane County when his vehicle was spotted in Marinette. Police chased him south on Highway 41 before they used a tire-deflation device to stop his vehicle near Schacht Road in the town of Peshtigo. The vehicle rolled across the median and across the opposite lanes of traffic. De Los Santos and Bonjean approached Collamore, who notified them he had a knife. He was able to escape through the passenger side before the fatal confrontation.
Dane County authorities believe Collamore was a squatter who had killed the owner of the cabin in southwestern Wisconsin where he was staying. The body of Thomas Muckler, 70, was found Aug. 28 at the cabin in the town of Mazomanie.
