OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An Oshkosh teacher is getting backlash for his online comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
The post from an Oshkosh West High School teacher referred to Kirk, a conservative political activist and close ally of President Donald Trump, as a “morally evil human, made all the worse by his (misguided and misleading) public-facing professions of Christianity and the religious right’s embrace thereof.”
The post went on to say, “I think the world is a better place without his voice and his ideas. (It reminds me of that old line always misattributed to Mark Twain: “I’ve never wished a man dead, but I’ve read some obituaries with great glee.”)”
A statement from the Oshkosh Area School District said:
The Oshkosh Area School District received information regarding a staff member’s personal post on social media and is handling the situation in accordance with district policies. We are unable to comment on personnel matters.
Last week, a Laconia teacher was placed on administrative leave for a social media post she made about Kirk’s death. It’s just one of countless examples of people nationwide losing their jobs for comments made online about the fatal shooting.
