(WTAQ-WLUK) — The Army ROTC program at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh won’t close after this academic year after all.
The military announced in July the program would close. However, the UWO program will continue under the auspices of the program at Marquette University, a UWO spokesman confirmed Friday.
The UWO program also included adjunct facilities at UW-Green Bay, St. Norbert College, Ripon College, and Marian University. It was not immediately clear Friday what the status of those programs would be. UWO did not have details.
About 40 students participated in the program UWO last school year — half from UW-Oshkosh and half from the other four colleges. Since the ROTC program was formally launched in 1967, thousands of students have graduated from it.
UW-Madison, UW-La Crosse and UW-Stevens Point also have Army ROTC programs, although the UWSP program was slated to become an extension unit next year.
