DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A severe weather outbreak that swept through Northeast Wisconsin on Aug. 9 has been confirmed to include a brief EF0 tornado for Peninsula State Park in Door County, according to a damage survey released by the National Weather Service Wednesday. The storm, which brought heavy rainfall and severe winds, caused significant damage to trees and power lines, and left thousands without power across Northeast Wisconsin.
The NWS confirms that the EF0 tornado occurred in Peninsula State Park between 3:54 p.m. and 3:55 p.m., with peak winds reaching 73 mph. The tornado traveled a quarter mile with a path width of 32 yards. The NWS noted that Door County Emergency Management supported the damage survey with photos and on-site analysis.
The NWS Green Bay also confirmed the tornado’s path through a convergent damage pattern, radar analysis, environmental analysis and satellite imagery. The damage was consistent with an EF0 tornado, with the most significant impact being an uprooted tree. The NWS assessed the tornado at the low end of the damage scale due to the saturated ground conditions.
The tornado crossed into Eagle Harbor as a waterspout, with numerous public reports and video evidence confirming its presence. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
