FOX CROSSING (WTAQ-WLUK) — Kimberly-Clark officials say proposed changes at their Neenah facility won’t result in lost jobs, but a union representative claims that’s not the case.
As we first reported Wednesday, Kimberly-Clark is evaluating a potential shift in its Kotex brand that would move some production overseas. The company said the proposed changes “do not include job loss.”
Kimberly-Clark is evaluating potential changes to its Kotex supply chain strategy at the Neenah Cold Spring Facility as part of our ongoing efforts to better serve employees, customers, and consumers. These proposed changes do not include job loss. We are committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to serve the best interests of our employees and the communities we operate in while strengthening our competitiveness and impact.
On Friday, a statement was released from a representative for the United Steelworkers who asked to remain anonymous. Their statement says Kimberly-Clark’s release “paints a misleading picture.”
Kimberly-Clark’s press release paints a misleading picture of the impact involved with their statement of moving the Kotex brand overseas. While no current employees will be immediately displaced, the reality is that roughly 100 jobs will be eliminated from the Neenah Cold Spring Facility as a result of the move of production to Vietnam and Malaysia. The Union and Kimberly-Clark are working collaboratively to protect the remaining jobs and safeguard employees’ futures. This announcement is also a painful reminder of the 2018 closure attempt-averted only through union concessions and taxpayer support-that left workers and the community in a state of uncertainty.
