Green Bay Metro Fire Department
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Three people are displaced after an apartment fire in Green Bay.
Around 7:50 p.m. Monday, the Green Bay Metro Fire Department was dispatched to the Deckner Manor Apartments on Deckner Avenue for a reported structure fire.
The first units arrived on scene in under four minutes. Smoke was visible from a window in a first-floor apartment unit. Its residents evacuated after attempting to put out the fire.
Crews extinguished the fire in less than five minutes and ensured it was contained to the one apartment. The smoke was vented and most residents in the building were allowed back into their homes.
In total, three people were displaced. They are being assisted by the Red Cross. One firefighter was taken to an area hospital with heat-related issues.
According to a news release, the fire started in a closet. Fire marshals are still investigating the cause. Damage is estimated at $7,500.
GBMFD reminds citizens to have working smoke detectors and practice evacuation plans with children.
