OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — XRoads41 is underway in Oshkosh for its second year, and organizers say attendance could approach 60,000.
“I came last year and it was so much fun,” said Stephanie Tlachak of Winneconne. “Especially seeing Journey and stuff. It was such a cool experience.”
Cody Johnson, Kane Brown and Parker McCollum are headlining the three-night event this year.
The Oshkosh Festival Grounds welcomed back live music last summer after Country USA and Rock USA were canceled several years ago. Like AirVenture and Lifest, attendees camp out.
“It’s close to home and we get to tent tonight,” said Makayla Meyer of New Holstein.
“It’s close to home, I don’t got to drive far,” said Steaven Laude of Berlin. “We got a campsite out yonder.”
XRoads41 is not exclusively a country music festival. Some pop performers, like Flo Rida and Nelly, are sprinkled in too. But look around and you’ll find hay bales and a whole lot of cowboy hats. Most people are here to see the country artists performing.
“I love country music, man,” said Ajay Coron from Minocqua.
The festival drew almost 30,000 people last year, but could approach 60,000 this year, according to XRoads 41 ambassador Makenna Mae.
We asked visitors whether they’re concerned about the nearly-90 degree temperatures.
“I work in the trades, so it’s not a big deal,” said Logan Kubasta of Berlin.
“We don’t care, but ask us later when we’re sleeping in a tent tonight,” said Maddie Knudtson of Sheboygan.
“A lot of sweat, but I’m having a good time,” said Meyer.
“Yeah, as long as we look good and we’re having fun, we don’t care,” said Courtney Karls of New Holstein.
The consensus? They’re hydrating early…
“A lot of water beforehand,” said Tyler Lieske of Oshkosh.
With different types of hydration, of course.
“I’m just drinking a lot,” said Tlachak.
“The hot weather just makes the beers go down real nice and smooth, so you can’t complain with the weather there,” said Kaiden Schumacher of Port Washington.
With plenty of excitement to go around, XRoads 41 runs through Saturday.
