DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The trailer has been released for a new Hallmark-esque Christmas movie that’s set in Door County and was filmed entirely across the peninsula.
“Door County is the Christmas capital of the Midwest,” proclaims the leading lady in the trailer for “A Cherry Pie Christmas.”
It tells the story of Emma, an ambitious Chicago pastry chef, who returns home to small-town Door County for Christmas and rekindles an old romance with her ex-boyfriend, Mitch. Throughout her holiday visit, Emma must choose between her dream job and saving her family’s struggling cherry orchard with a winning cherry pie.
The movie wrapped principal photography back in April. Over 400 locals volunteered to act as extras.
Destination Door County and Travel Wisconsin, among others, worked with the production team to make filming possible and select locations to feature.
“Door County is the perfect setting for the film with its local traditions and beautiful scenery, rich agricultural history with cherries, commercial fishing and dairy farming. Together with the importance of family, all of these elements are integral storylines in the film and are also authentic to the Door County community,” said the film’s director, John Stimpson, in a news release.
One of the film’s producers, Staci Griesbach, is a graduate of Hortonville High School. She introduced Stimpson to Door County as a potential filming location.
Familiar sights around the peninsula can be seen throughout the trailer, lending their charm as the backdrop for scenes in the movie. Door County officials said many locations will keep their real names in the film.

- Lautenbach’s Orchard Country Winery & Market in Fish Creek
- Eagle Tower at Peninsula State Park

A release date for the movie hasn’t been announced, but it’s expected to be out in time for the 2025 holiday season.
