OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Sunday marked the final day of EAA AirVenture, the week-long air show at Oshkosh’s Wittmann Regional Airport.
“Exciting, hot, it just never stops. Everything is just always going,” said Kysha Hawley, who travelled from Brisbane Australia to come to AirVenture this year.
She has been at the grounds all week.
“First year here, it was really exciting. My parents had a Beechcraft Staggerwing in the vintage area, showing that for the first time. It was really exciting,” she said.
Jon Butts came from England, visiting AirVenture for the first time this year.
“It’s been truly great. I’ve been to Paris air show, Farmborough air show, Air Tattoos at Fairford for 30, 40 years,” Butts said. “I’ve never been to any event where the atmosphere is so relaxed, and the aviators can aviate.”
As the event wrapped up, an estimated 691,000 visitors attended AirVenture, with over 14,000 aircraft movements at Wittmann Regional alone.
The air show saw 15,000 campsites on the grounds this year. Sue Voltz was among those campers.
“I’ve just been taking my grandchild around, taking her to the kids activities, and just browsing the show,” she said.
Voltz and her husband Doug have been coming to AirVenture since the Concord landed in 1985, and say the community is the biggest part of every year.
“The air show brings you here, the people bring you back,” Doug told us. “I know I’ve had a couple people come here numerous times for the first time and they go, where’s the crew that picks all the paper up? Nope, everybody. Don’t care who you are, if there’s paper on the ground, you pick it up.”
Butts said this year was just the beginning of his AirVenture journey.
“If you haven’t been, come to Oshkosh. I’ll be back.”
AirVenture officials said they plan to continue expanding the air show every year, having added a parking lot and additional campsites this year.
