ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Packers 80th year of training camp started Wednesday morning.
Wednesday is the first of three consecutive, public practices all of which take place at Ray Nitschke Field.
Fans came from near and far to watch the green and gold practice, even the Packers NFL International Fan of the Year, Matthias Kraus, from Germany. He was also here in April to announce a pick for the NFL Draft.
Around 9 a.m., a longtime Packers tradition, the Dream Drive, kicks off where the young fans lend their bicycles to Packers players to ride to practice from Lambeau Field to Ray Nitschke Field.
If weather or other factors move the team indoors, practices will be closed to the public and take place inside the Don Hutson Center.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur believes they have a championship-caliber team, and noted his excitement about the Packers first draft pick; wide receiver Matthew Golden.
“He’s definitely not afraid of hard work, he cares about the game, he’s going to put the time in and be dedicated,” said LaFleur. “It’ll be great to watch him when we get the pads on and when we practice against other teams.”
