Michael Thorson (Shawano Co. Jail, Shawano County Sheriff's Office)
SHAWANO COUNTY (WTAQ-WLUK) — Authorities are still searching for a wanted Shawano County man who is considered armed and dangerous.
According to the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Michael J. Thorson has a felony probation warrant and is a suspect in several recent vehicle thefts and burglaries across Shawano and Marathon counties.
Police believe Thorson is still in the area of western Shawano County or eastern Marathon County. A tip received Tuesday came from the Wilson Lake Park area outside Wittenberg.
The tipster reported a possible vehicle described as a late 2000s silver Grand Prix, but the sheriff’s office was unable to confirm a license plate number or whether Thorson was associated with the vehicle in question.
A stolen vehicle believed to be operated by Thorson was recovered Sunday afternoon in the Stockbridge-Munsee area, but despite extensive efforts, law enforcement was unable to locate him at that time.
Thorson is believed to be clean shaven with a shaved head, so authorities created an AI-generated photo showing what Thorson may look like with no hair.
Officials say it’s critical to provide them with any and all tips as soon as possible.
Your information is crucial — but timing matters. The sooner we receive a tip, the better our chances are of locating the suspect. It becomes significantly more difficult to follow up when tips come in 24+ hours after the fact.
If you see something or know something, don’t wait.
Anyone with information regarding Thorson’s whereabouts should immediately contact the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office at (715) 526-3111 or your local law enforcement agency.
