GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A local manufacturer is trying to the put the “green” in Green Bay.
Nature’s Way, which manufactures dietary supplements and personal wellness products, unveiled its latest sustainability effort Wednesday.
“We believe in harnessing the power of nature here at Nature’s Way, and there’s really no better way than by using the Earth’s geothermal energy to support that initiative,” said Nate Sengstock, senior project manager at Nature’s Way.
The company is reducing its CO2 emissions and reliance on natural gas through a $12 million geothermal project. Geothermal technology will allow Nature’s Way to use the Earth’s natural temperature to heat and cool its Green Bay building more sustainably.
Geothermal energy uses the natural temperature of the Earth, not too far underground. Slightly underground, it’s roughly about 50 degrees Fahrenheit consistently throughout the year. So the geothermal technology allows us to harness that temperature and then using heat transfer equipment, we’re able to heat and/or cool our facility here.
Sengstock said this project has been in the works for more than a year. The technology will decrease the facility’s CO2 emissions by 20%, or about 850 tons annually.
“This is an initiative that allows us to support nature and our sustainability efforts allow us to walk the walk behind our talk,” Sengstock said.
Drilling is expected to be finished in November, with the entire project complete by Q3 of 2026.
