MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – All elementary and middle schools in the Manitowoc Public School District will adopt Lincoln High School’s “Ships” mascot, according to the district.
Supt. Lee Thennes’s notes for Tuesday’s school board meeting say the other mascots will be changed over time.
We are excited to announce that we will be moving forward with a district-wide rebranding initiative. As part of this effort, all district mascots will gradually transition to the Ships, uniting our schools and community under a shared identity that celebrates Manitowoc’s rich maritime heritage. This transition aims to build a stronger sense of community and pride throughout the district.
Please note that this will be a multi-year process; for example, existing elements like the Mustang on the Monroe gym floor will remain in place until updates are scheduled as part of routine maintenance or facility improvements. We will continue to update you as we move forward through this process,” the report states.
According to the district’s website, the schools are currently:
- Franklin Elementary Falcons
- Jefferson Elementary Griffins
- Madison Elementary Cougars
- Monroe Elementary Mustangs
- Riverview Learning Center Raptors
- Stangel Learning Center Eagles
- Washington Middle Wolves
- Wilson Middle Warhawks
