FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A man was arrested after he attacked a woman with an axe, leaving her with life-threatening injuries, Fond du Lac police say.
Around 2:38 p.m. Sunday, police were called to a residence in the 300 block of E. Merrill Avenue following a 911 call from a woman who reported she had been attacked with an axe and she was bleeding.
When officers arrived, they found the 38-year-old victim with multiple, serious lacerations to her head, extremities, and back.
Officers immediately rendered life-saving care and secured the scene. The woman was taken to an area hospital and then airlifted to Theda Medical Center in Neenah, where she underwent extensive surgery. As of Sunday evening, she was listed in stable condition.
Around 7 p.m., the suspect was located near Germantown. After a brief pursuit, the 34-year-old man was taken into custody.
Chief of Police Aaron Goldstein expressed deep concern and empathy for the survivor and her family: “This was a horrific act of violence, and our hearts are with the survivor as she begins her long road to recovery. The swift response by our Officers, the cooperation of our partner agencies, and the compassion shown throughout this investigation reflect the very best of what public service stands for. As a community, we must come together to support individuals impacted by violence and remain committed to fostering healing, safety, and resilience for everyone.”
