TOWN OF RIPON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A pet cat died in a fire that left a house uninhabitable Thursday morning.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says crews were called to Skyline Circle in the town of Ripon just before 10:30 a.m.
Crews were able to contain the fire to the basement, but there was significant smoke and soot damage to the rest of the house.
A cat died of smoke inhalation, but firefighters were able to rescue other pets. The homeowners were not home at the time.
Preliminary investigation showed the fire was electrical and started in a basement workshop, where a tool failed while plugged in. While not considered suspicious, it remains under investigation.
