MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — No one was hurt when a boat caught fire Wednesday at the Manitowoc Marina.
According to the Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department, the fire was reported around 6:30 p.m. Witnesses said the boat was fully engulfed in flames and some type of explosion had occurred.
No exposures were noted, as the boat was at the boat launch area of the marina and not moored with other boats in the actual marina, officials said.
Firefighters knocked down the blaze in approximately 10 minutes and the fire was fully extinguished within 20 minutes. The boat was then removed by its owner to avoid any fuel or oil discharge into Lake Michigan.
The boat was a 24-foot fiberglass inboard watercraft. Black smoke could be seen billowing from the boat due to the burning of the fiberglass material.
The operator of the boat was able to safely exit the watercraft prior to it becoming fully engulfed in flames.
