(WTAQ-WLUK) — A high-speed chase that involved a Wisconsin State Patrol airplane covered four counties before a motorcycle rider was arrested.
The State Patrol says it first registered the motorcycle going 150 mph on Interstate 43 in Ozaukee County. Troopers initially tried to follow the bike on the ground, but decided to turn over the chase to a plane that was doing speed enforcement.
The motorcycle continued speeding through traffic, at times passing vehicles on the shoulder. At one point, the rider stopped at a gas station in the Cleveland area and filled up, but left before he could be arrested.
As the plane tracked the motorcycle, the rider eventually got off I-43 and ditched the bike in the area of Cooperstown Road and Rosecrans Road in Manitowoc County, between Maribel and Denmark.
The 18-year-old from West Allis was arrested around 2 p.m. Charges are being recommended from Ozaukee, Sheboygan, Manitowoc and Brown counties.
