APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Appleton International Airport and the Transportation Security Administration are offering advice to help you and your family get through airport security quickly and safely this summer travel season.
At a news conference held Thursday at ATW, officials said the hustle and bustle is upon us.
“We’re in the midst of the busy summer travel season already,” said Chris Simonsen, TSA assistant federal security director for Wisconsin. “A lot of people traveling. Our top 10 days in TSA history happened since Memorial Day of 2024, so obviously people are traveling. They’re ready to venture out.”
Simonsen offered these tips to help save you precious time at the airport.
- Arrive at the airport early
- Pack smart; make sure you don’t have any prohibited items in your checked luggage or carry-on bag
- Liquids, gels and aerosols must be 3.4 ounces or smaller; only one quart-sized bag of liquids is allowed per passenger
- Keep your ID and boarding pass easily accessible
- Take everything out of your pockets before going through the body scanners
Simonsen also reminded travelers that REAL ID compliance mandate went into effect last month, which has resulted in some important changes at the airport.
“You have to have a REAL ID to go through your checkpoint. If you do not, your travel could be delayed. If you do not have a REAL ID, please get to the airport early, because it will slow down your process. You’ll be able to get through, but it will slow down your process,” he said.
