HOWARD, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Dozens once again turned out for the 22nd annual Jerry Parins “Cruise for Cancer” ride in the Green Bay area.
It starts and ends at the Vandervest Harley-Davidson dealer in Howard.
“I probably get too much credit, the people that support us and deal with cancer and fight cancer, it’s just amazing. And the revenue we’ve generated over the 22 years is awesome,” said Jerry Parins.
The event came about after Parins was diagnosed with cancer in 2003.
Since the event was first created, nearly $3 million has been donated to area cancer organizations like the HSHS St. Vincent/St. Mary’s Foundation and the Bellin Health Foundation — helping countless patients.
“We try to choose different charities that touch different types of cancers and all of the money, like I said, stays here locally,” said Dixie Kinnard with Vandervest Harley-Davidson.
Aiden Dohr, a 15-year-old battling leukemia who was honored during last year’s ride, helped raise more than $7,000 this year.
“I thought it was a good event to give it to because it helps a lot of other families with cancer,” said Dohr.
Jim Stallard, who lost his brother to cancer, was this year’s top donor. He was able to gather a whopping $18,000 this year. He’s provided more than $160,000 over the last 14 years in donations for the event.
“Every year, I think about my brother, and other family members and friends that I have, that have either had to battle cancer or have lost their lives to cancer. And the great thing about this charity is every penny you give to this charity goes right back into this community,” said Stallard.
For everyone involved — it’s all about bettering the lives of others.
