MENASHA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Menasha police released surveillance images of two suspects accused of destroying more than $1,000 worth of fishing equipment belonging to three young anglers.
Police say it happened on May 4 around 8:30 p.m. along the Trestle Trail near the Menasha Locks.
According to the victims, the group was fishing when two unknown individuals approached, and without provocation, threw multiple tackle boxes and fishing rods into the water. The individuals then ran away along nearby railroad tracks.
Officers conducted an area search but were unable to locate the suspects.
One of the victims told police, “We were just out fishing. We didn’t even talk to them—they came up and threw our gear in the water for no reason. Everything we needed was in that tackle box.”
One of the suspects is believed to have reddish or blonde hair and described as wearing a light tan Under Armour hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and light-colored shoes.
The second suspect is described as having glasses with dark hair, wearing a gray short-sleeve t-shirt, black pants and black and white Vans style shoes.
“This wasn’t a misunderstanding or a case of theft—it was a deliberate act,” said Officer Kate Lynch, the investigating officer. “These young people saved up for that gear. To have it destroyed for no reason isn’t just frustrating—it’s personal. We’re hoping someone in the community can help us bring accountability and make it right.”
Police were able to obtain surveillance footage from Fritse Park from the Fox Crossing Police Department.
