PESHTIGO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wednesday marked the grand opening of Peshtigo’s newly-expanded fire station, emergency medical services (EMS) facility and library.
Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers joined local leaders for the ribbon cutting celebration, which was held during National EMS Week. The expansion was funded, in part, by a $3 million grant awarded to the city through Evers’ Neighborhood Investment Fund grant program.
Features of the expanded facility include additional storage space, a dedicated EMS room, a new staff kitchen and meeting space. There’s also resources to bolster support services for kids, families and seniors in the community and help address the fire department’s need for additional space as they integrate local EMS into their services.
“I’ve always believed that the state must be a partner in—and not an obstacle to—the important work our local partners are doing across our state every day. I was glad to be able to direct critical investments through the Neighborhood Investment program to support communities like Peshtigo across Wisconsin, and I’m especially proud that we could play a role in helping expand their local fire and EMS facilities that will pay dividends for the community’s future,” Evers said in a news release.
Through our $3 million investment through this program, the city of Peshtigo will be able to make key facility upgrades to ensure the fire department is better equipped to respond to emergencies quickly and provide life-saving care, helping keep local folks and families healthy and safe.
In 2021, Evers directed over $200 million to create the Neighborhood Investment Fund. Local communities could apply to receive funding under the grant program to use for new projects such as this one.
