GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Brown County District Attorney David Lasee says his office is looking into the residency issue involving former Green Bay school board member Kou Lee.
Lee resigned May 8 after a Press Gazette story appeared to provide evidence Lee might not live in the school district now or when he campaigned and won his board seat in spring of 2024.
State law requires a school board candidate to be a resident of the school district for at least 28 consecutive days before filing their declaration of candidacy.
Lee’s declaration of candidacy lists a Green Bay address, but the Press Gazette and members of the public have both reported the owner of the address listed told them they did not know Lee.
Neighbors of a Hobart address listed for Lee have also told the newspaper and members of the public Lee and his family have lived at the home for at least 10 years.
An open records request revealed Lee told school board members in a March group text message that he had been living in Green Bay for several months before starting his school board campaign in 2022. He said he was working through personal issues with his wife and they were still deciding what to do with the Hobart home.
Green Bay’s school board is in the process of filling Lee’s former seat. It hopes to appoint someone before July 14th.
