OUTAGAMIE COUNTY (WTAQ-WLUK) — Over $3.2 million in capital improvement project dollars originally earmarked for UW-Oshkosh Fox Cities will be used by Outagamie County to modernize its aging administrative systems.
“People at UW-Fox wanted to make particular investments that the county board wisely said, ‘Well, we don’t think they’re going in the direction that they need more funds,'” said Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson.
Outagamie County will soon sell its share of the UWO Fox Cities campus to Winnebago County, leaving them with an excess of funds.
“If all goes as planned, Outagamie County, by the end of June, will no longer have any obligation to the campus,” Nelson explained. “And so what the board wants to do is it wants to allocate that money towards county-specific programming.”
County-specific programming that, according to the county’s draft resolution, is outdated and in need of an upgrade. Those upgrades would help make Outagamie County’s financial and human resources operations more efficient.
The decision was tabled Tuesday for a later date, but Nelson said it’s not due to disagreement.
“We had some people from the county board that wanted to make a point to be here to talk about this issue, because it is a project. It’s something that has been a part of the overall UW-Fox picture,” he told us. “So this is simply a matter of trying to involve as many voices from the county board as possible.”
The county will likely make a decision at their next Finance Committee meeting
