LUDINGTON, Mich. (WTAQ-WLUK) — The SS Badger’s planned trek to Sturgeon Bay Tuesday has been postponed 24 hours because of inclement weather.
Officials made the decision to delay the ferry’s trip due to the National Weather Service predicting gale force winds on Lake Michigan, with surface winds to 50 knots possible.
The Badger is now expected to depart Ludington, Michigan between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. Wednesday. The trip will take approximately 12 hours.
The ferry is traveling to Sturgeon Bay for repairs in preparation of its upcoming sailing season, scheduled to begin Friday, May 16. Once the SS Badger arrives at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, it will be put into dry dock and have a propeller shaft bearing repaired.
Following the repairs, the ship is expected to return to Ludington May 11.
