HOWARD, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Thrift shopping isn’t only a fun way to find good deals; it’s also a great option to promote sustainability and protect the planet.
On Monday, Goodwill held a grand opening for its newly-relocated Howard Donation Center on Velp Avenue. Their previous site was in the Lineville Road area.
This location is just a drop-off site, not a shopping center — meaning its purpose is simply to provide an easy place for neighbors to drop off items.
“We take all items that we would take at our stores. It’s essentially as convenient as our store locations, just without the shopping experience. It’s really aimed at being a convenient way that’s close to where people live and work, that enables them to be able to support our mission by dropping off donations,” said Chris Hess, president and CEO of Goodwill North Central Wisconsin.
By donating to and shopping at Goodwill, individuals can help divert 35 million pounds, on average, of items from landfills. To put that in perspective, that is enough to fill approximately 875 semi-truck trailers.
