DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — St. Norbert College and the Green Bay Packers have a history going back decades, which included hosting the team for training camp up until 2020.
The college is using the NFL Draft in Titletown as an opportunity to share some of that history through student-organized tours across campus.
Students were offered internship credits to lead tours exploring the relationship between SNC and the Packers, according to internship instructor Meghan Walsh.
“The tours are student-led and student created, so the students did all the work to put together the scripts,” she said. “They have practiced and they have plotted their course.”
Junior Joey Kositzky is one of three tour guides for the project. In all, 10 students participated in the internship. Each one brushed up on their Packers history to make the tour fun and informative.
“We went through the archives here at the library, gathering information, looking at all the historical photos and stories that we heard,” said Kositzky. “We connected with former alumni and people that used to work at the college here.”
Those stories include Vince Lombardi’s time on the St. Norbert campus, where he set up an office to overlook his players after curfew.
The tour guides also shared anecdotes from recent Packers history, including a story from Aaron Rodgers’ time on the team.
“Him and Graham Harrell thought it would be a great idea to join a fraternity on campus as honorary members,” a tour guide told guests.
Scott Rausch came to Wisconsin from Washington D.C. for Easter and wanted to get a taste of the draft before it began.
“It’s part of the history of the NFL that not a lot of people know about, and if you’re looking to get a full NFL experience and kind of understand the history of the Packers and the NFL, this is part of it,” Rausch said.
St. Norbert has five tours scheduled for Wednesday. Click here to register.
St. Norbert College is also offering a photo gallery of the history between the college and team. The exhibit runs through May 9.
