(WTAQ) — In the most expensive state supreme court race in U.S. history, liberal Dane County judge Susan Crawford has defeated conservative candidate Waukesha County Judge Brad Schimel.
$90 million was spent in total on the race; with about $40 million going to Crawford’s campaign and $50 million to Schimel’s campaign.
Schimel saw the largest single donation from America PAC, founded by Elon Musk, at $12 million. Another group linked to Musk, Building America’s Future, gave about $6 million to Schimel’s campaign. Additionally, Elon Musk gave another $2 million to the Republican Party of Wisconsin, which supported Schimel.
On Sunday, Musk held a campaign rally in Green Bay for Schimel where he presented a two rallygoers each with a $1 million check.
Through her campaign, Crawford saw significant support from George Soros, who donated $1 million to the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. That money was then sent to Crawford’s campaign.
Crawford’s victory means liberals will retain a 4-3 advantage on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
