MENASHA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Menasha school district will not buy the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Fox Cities campus.
The district had proposed operating child care facilities on the campus after in-person classes end following the current school year.
Menasha officials say feedback from the community played a role in their decision to end discussions of buying the campus, saying in a news release:
A common theme in the community feedback received by the District was a desire for more information about the project’s impact on Menasha Joint School District taxpayers and the potential costs to the school district. Without these details and more opportunity for public discussion about these details, our plan lacks sufficient support.
The district says it is still interested in addressing the community’s child care shortage. Leaders also say they are willing to continue to be part of the conversation about the future of the college campus.
Winnebago and Outagamie counties jointly own the campus property.
