FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Five residents are now displaced after a fire at a 16-unit apartment complex in the 100 block of S. Royal Avenue.
Crews initially saw smoke Wednesday night coming from the attic and second story.
The fire was put out quickly.
There was extensive damage to the kitchen of where the fire was and water damage to the apartment below the fire.
No one was injured.
Fond du Lac Fire Rescue encourages people to follow these fire safety tips while cooking on the stovetop:
- Maintain working smoke alarms
- Never leave a stove unattended
- Keep combustibles away from the cooking surface
- Heat oils slowly or over moderate heat
- Reduce heat; utilize a metal lid or cooking sheet to reduce splatter or fire spread
