MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An inmate died last week at the Marinette County Jail.
At approximately 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday, correctional officers were alerted to a “medical emergency” taking place in one of the cell pods at the Marinette County Jail.
According to a news release, correctional officers “immediately responded” and performed lifesaving efforts on the inmate. Additionally, EMS personnel with Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area and the Marinette Emergency Rescue Squad were called to assist.
All attempts to resuscitate the inmate were unsuccessful. She has been identified as Kristi Meverden, 34, of Pound.
Meverden’s death remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office. The matter will also be reviewed by the State of Wisconsin Department of Corrections Office of Detention Facilities.
